Cocoa butter is an exceptional anti-ageing ingredient that smells amazing too! Yet, if you have ever tried to incorporate cocoa butter into your skincare products, its overly sweet scent can be overpowering. Pairing cocoa butter with essential oils is a great way to mellow its rich aroma.

1. Cedarwood Essential Oil

If you face chaos in your life, reach out for cedarwood oil. The rich woody aroma of cedarwood has a calming effect on the mind. Although it is a masculine oil, I love its grounding effect and mix it with bergamot to add freshness to my formulas.

2. Cinnamon Essential Oil

Cinnamon oil’s warming scent is an excellent pick for the body as well as the skin. Its naturally sweet and comforting scent compliments cocoa butter, creating a cosy ambience that is not to be missed.

Lavender oil is one of my favourite essential oils. The sweet floral aroma soothes anxiety and nurtures feelings of calmness, making it an excellent choice for DIY spa treatments. You can anchor the cocoa butter’s chocolaty smell with woody notes of cedarwood. Add a rich scent of rose and round it off with the fresh scent of citrus essential oil for a luxurious skincare treat.

10. Vanilla Oleoresin/ Absolute/ CO2/ Infused Oil

Vanilla absolute is a fragrant extract derived from the pulp of vanilla beans. Its rich, soothing smell is loved by skincare formulators and beauty enthusiasts alike. It complements cocoa butter well by adding a deliciously sweet aroma to the mix. A bit of ginger essential oil will add zing to the mix. 

Note: Vanilla can’t be steam distilled to produce essential oils. So if you’d like to incorporate its soothing aroma into the skincare products, you can choose between vanilla oleoresin, vanilla absolute, vanilla CO2 extract or vanilla infused oil.
